For centuries the Alsace has been known all over the world for fine Tableware and Gastronomy. The Fame of its Master craftsmen, be they Crystal cutters or Silversmiths, set a world standard. The variety and wealth of its cuisine combined to make the Alsace a high place of French gastronomy and much more. Back in the Eighteenth century, Silversmithing emerged as a premier local craft, especially in Strasbourg which still boasts a " Silversmiths Street " near the exceptional Gothic Cathedral.
Once upon the time...
...There was a young man named Christian DEETJEN who came from Hamburg, Germany to work as a Silversmith in Strasbourg. His skills, craftmanship and artistry were soon famous among his peers. This was in 1807.
Over the years the Deetjen family tradition continued. Christian's son Edouard, set up a workshop where he pioneered the art of Goldplating. His son developed fine silverplating for flatware and Hollowware. This was back in 1845. So started the Deetjen story. Eversince Deetjen has been renowned for its Silverware manufactured to the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality.
Today Deetjen silversmith keeps on providing the finest silver to the people of the Alsace. Deetjen also supplies silver to the finest restaurants in the Alsace, many of which have received the higly desirable Michelin stars that reward the best cuisine in France.
